SUMMARY:The Future of EU-UK Relations
DESCRIPTION:The Brexit transition period is slowly coming to an end. Despite a lengthy process, the parties have yet to agree on a framework for future cooperation in crucial areas such as trade, environment and security. A failure to find common ground in these areas could have extensive consequences, but the range of disagreements between the two parties continue to hinder successful negotiations. How likely is it that an agreement will be reached? And how could the EU-UK relationship develop after the turn of the year? Join us for a Coffee Conversation where Trade Officer Sam Pieters will talk about the current negotiations and share his perspective on the challenges and possibilities for future cooperation.\nThere will be room for Q&A after the talk.\nOur speaker:\nSam Pieters is working as Trade Officer in the Representation of the European Commission in Germany. Previously, he worked in the unit in charge of trade relations between the EU and the USA and Canada of the European Commission’s Directorate General for Trade. He joined the Commission in April 2001 working in the field of competition (anti-cartel enforcement, antitrust and merger policy as well as international relations with global competition agencies). He joined the Directorate General for Trade in 2016. He studied law and international relations and before joining the European Commission, he worked as a European competition lawyer at the Brussels bar and as a Legal Advisor in the Cabinet of the Belgian Interior Minister.\n\nClick here to register for the event.\n \n
